Les Humphries Singers

Les Humphries Singers  was een zanggroep die begin jaren zeventig werd opgericht door Les Humphries. De groep bestond uit zangers en zangeressen die uit verschillende landen afkomstig waren. Les Humphries Singers bracht een typisch "jarenzeventiggeluid", geïnspireerd door gospels en met duidelijke invloeden uit de hippiebeweging. De grootste hit van Les Humphries Singers in Nederland was to my father's house, dat alleen in Nederland hoog in de hitlijsten stond. To my father's house was een echte gospelhit en werd een hit in een periode waarin gospelmuziek bijzonder populair was, getuige de 1e plaats die The Edwin Hawkins Singers in 1969 bereikten met oh happy day. Ook het nummer lay down dat Melanie samen met The Edwin Hawkins Singers  in 1970 opnam en ook de nummer 1 positie bereikte in de top 40, was duidelijk door gospel beïnvloed. Een ander succesnummer van de zanggroep was mexico, een bewerking van een oud countryliedje (battle of new orleans van Jimmy Driftwood). Met het lied sing sang song deed de groep in 1976 namens Duitsland mee aan het eurovisie songfestival in Den Haag, maar het lied eindigde in de onderste regionen.
