Herb Alpert is een trompettist, arrangeur en producer. Hij bracht vanaf 1962 albums uit met zijn eigen platenmaatschappij (A&M Records). De doorbraak in Europa kwam in 1965 met de single Tijuana Taxi. Zijn grootste hit was This guy's in love with you uit 1969, waarmee hij in Amerika de 1e plaats bereikte en in Engeland op plek 3 kwam. Opvallend was ook de hit die hij samen met Janet Jackson scoorde: Diamonds. Deze single bereikte de 4e plaats in de Nederlandse top 40.
