Paul Young

Paul Young wordt in 1956 geboren in Luton (Engeland). Wanneer hij een solocarrière begint wordt hij gezien als een veelbelovende soulzanger. Van zijn debuutalbum No parlez (1983) halen 4 singles de nederlandse hitparade. Love of the common people wordt een nummer 1 hit en come back and stay bereikt de 2e plaats in de top 40. Ook van het album The secret of association (1985) halen 4 singles de hitparade. Dit succes kan Paul Young echter niet vasthouden. Bovendien wordt hij getroffen door problemen met zijn stem, wat zijn carrière ook niet ten goede komt. Na zijn 3e album Between two fires (1986) maakt hij geen opvallende platen meer en blijven hits uit. Een uitzondering hierop is het duet met Zucchero Fornaciari senza una donna (without a woman). Dit nummer weet nog de 3e plaats te bereiken in de hitparade. In 1994 neemt Paul Young met enkele vrienden in London gedurende 4 dagen in januari 1994 een aantal 'acoustic tracks' op. Daarmee gaat hij - zoals hij het zelf omschrijft - back to the basics. Paul Young nam in 1991 samen met Paul Carrack een nummer op van Neil Finn van Crowded House, nl. don't dream it's over. Dit nummer is te vinden op de verzamelaar From time to time (the singles collection) uit 1991. Andere previously unreleased tracks op dit album zijn senza una donna (feat. Zucchero), i'm only foolin' myself en both sides now (feat. Clannad).  Ook deze tracks werden als single uitgebracht, evenals het oorspronkelijk van No parlez afkomstige wherever i lay my hat (that's my home).
